February Zen Circle

Upaya Zen Center, Santa Fe NM

Instructor(s)
: Roshi Joan Halifax, PhD; Sensei Kaz Tanahashi; Natalie Goldberg; Clark Strand

The Zen Circle  gives practitioners the opportunity to enter into a time of retreat, learning, meditation practice, participation with Upaya’s residential community in their daily schedule (distributed upon arrival), and special programs within the Circle that are led by Zen teachers and/or Guiding Teachers.

Each Zen Circle includes an opening night session that includes an orientation as well as meditation instruction in the morning of the first full day. The schedule includes daily meditation practice, samu (work practice) periods, interviews with Guiding Teachers, weekly dharma talks and seminars. Typically, there are two personal practice days each week (Monday & Tuesday) where practitioners and residents take meals on their own and have the freedom to hike, study, do laundry, take quiet time, and meditate at their own discretion.

Residents and guests follow the same schedule.

Dormitory accommodations are included, or you may upgrade to a double for a supplemental fee. Contact the Registrar@upaya.org directly. The wonderful food at Upaya is vegetarian and organic.

The Zen Circle faculty teach only their specific retreat. Faculty for these specific programs are: Roshi Joan Halifax, Sensei Kaz Tanahashi, Sensei Shinzan Palma, Natalie Goldberg, and Clark Strand.
